TalkShoe is a community and podcasting service that hosts thousands of shows and is home to 3 million people per day. Some podcasters may be experienced but some are new to this process. That's why there's this FAQ that's designed to answer all your questions. Any questions you have, we will answer. Remember. "You got questions, we may have answers."
Q: What is TalkShoe?
- A: TalkShoe is a service that allows for anyone to create what they call "Community Calls", you can also use TalkShoe as a podcasting service as it allows you to upload MP3 files as long as they're under 100MB's.
Q: How do I join?
- A: This direct link should let you join TalkShoe.
Q: What is a Community Call?
- A: A community call is a show that you do live. You control the show from TalkShoe Live! and you can also chat about the show and it's related topics. Community calls can also focus on a specific category and you can also get your show featured.
Q: Do I have to have an account?
- A: No because you can join any show as a guest, you do have to register to start a show though.
Q: Why is all of a sudden TalkShoe slow?
- A: Probally because of something that's messing up TalkShoe, such as one show that has a lot of people called in or logged into the chat or it's probally a podcrasher crashing your show.
Q: Is there a forum where people can talk about TalkShoe?
- A: Yes, there are 2 forums that TalkShoe uses. forum.talkshoe.com and talkshoe.ning.com They are used for both support and general dicussions.
Q: Do you have any tips on how to make my show popular?
- A: See How to Start a Show on TalkShoe.
Q: What are listeners and callers?
- A: Listeners are people who listen to your show, and callers are people who call into your show.
Q: Can I call into a show?
- A: Yes, you can call into a guest by calling in, entering the call ID and entering the random PIN they give you, but to call in, you have to set-up your own pin.
Q: How do I dial in?
- A: Either dial +1-724-444-7444 for your ordinary household, or if your using a VOIP client like X-Lite or SJPhone, type in sip:123@66.212.134.192. Then enter the Call ID and hit pount, and enter the PIN you created and hit pound. If you are not a member, press 1 and then pound.
Q: How do I set up my own PIN?
- A: Go to the myTalkShoe section and click on "Pin", then enter a 10-digit number. It can be anything you want, from a phone number to a ranndom number you thought of.
Q: Do I have to have a upload a picture for my show?
- A: It is not manditory, but it is reccomended as not having a picture drops you from the ratings.
Q: How do I edit my show and host profile?
- A: For your show, click on the show name in your myTalkShoe section and click Update. To update your profile, click Profile in the myTalkShoe section.
Q: How do I upload an image?
- A: For your show, click on your show name in the myTalkShoe section and click on Upload New Images. For your profile, click on Avatar on the myTalkShoe section. For shows, the recommended image size is 300x300 and the recommended image size for profiles is 120x120.
Q: How can I make my call only accessable to myself and my friends?
- A: When creating your show, remember to tick the "Unlisted" bubble.
Q: Who can join unlisted calls?
- A: Only people you invite can join unlisted calls.
Q: I'm out of the house and using my phone to do the show. How can I start the call and mute myself.
- A: *2*1 will start and end the show, *6 will mute you and *5 will extend the call.
Q: How can I leave a rating for a show?
- A: Click on the show and choose from a rating of 1 to 5. Once you rated the show, click on "Write a full comment?", enter the title of your comment and comment on the box below it. Then click save review, you have just left a review for a show.
Q: Do I have to pay to use TalkShoe?
- A: No, TalkShoe is completly free. You do have to pay somewhat if you are dialing in using the 724 number.
Q: I see a letter near a show's image. What does that mean?
- A: They're ratings. A is for all audiences, PC is for Parental Content and EX is for Explicit. These ratings help keep kids out of the wrong places.
Q: Can I reschedule my show?
- A: Absolutly, go to myTalkShoe and click on your show. Then click on options near your scheduled show.
Q: How do I get listed as a Featured and Top Rated Community Call on the website?
- A: Top Rated and Featured Community Calls are displayed on several TalkShoe pages. Getting into these categories can be achieved by being one of the most popular Community Calls in terms of listeners and podcasters, highly rated, and in the future by signing up to be a sponsored Community Call.
Q: Do I need any additional equipment?
- A: No, all you need is an ordinary household phone. Or if you're on a computer, all you need is a mic.
Q: How do I add sound effects to my show?
- A: You need a program called vEmotion (also known as vEmotion). It is available at voiceemotion.com.
Q: How many people can I have and does it effect the quality?
- A: As many as you want and no, it does not effect the quality.
Q: What is TalkShoe Live! Pro and where can I download it?
- A: TalkShoe Live! Pro is an advanced client that is the core element of TalkShoe, it has horizantal threads for chat and also has a built in ShoePhone which can allow you to call in without the need for an VOIP client and you can find a download link near the bottom that says "Download"
Q: Who can see the chat session and how can I browse the chat history?
- A: Well everyone who has joined the show can see the chat and you can browse the chat by using the scrollbar.
Q: What are the requirements for TalkShoe Live! Pro?
- A: A newer PC or Mac with 128MB's of Memory
Q: I downloaded the Mac client, where can I download the JVM?
- A: Here.
Q: Do I need an MP3 player to listen to a recorded call?
- A: No, you can download them from the TalkShoe Site and play them on your computer. You can also transfer them to your MP3 player.
Q: Can I use Skype to dial into TalkShoe?
- A: Yes you can, you just got to do the same thing you did with the landline. Though you must pay to get SkypeOut.
