Remember, folks, check your grammar and spelling! I realize it's a skill that's fallen horribly into disuse, but we're using English for now and not the infinitely superior Loglan.

Keep your voice consistent. If you're writing a series of instructions, make sentences tight, simple and direct. There's no need to provide sequencing words (first, next, last) unless the sequence is specific and directive, and in such cases you're probably better off using numbered lists. Write directions in the present tense and avoiding using the direct "you."

   "You will now click this button"

... is wrong.

   "Click this button"

... is right.

Simple, direct, consistent. This is not a "pick any two" situation.
