Help:How to Configure your VOIP client/X-Lite
From TalkShoe Wiki
You've decided that X-Lite looks like the VOIP client for you. Bravo. Just a few steps until you're chatting away online:
- You must have installed X-Lite. Download it from CounterPath and enter your information. After you go through the setup and launch it for the first time, you will see this X-Lite interface:
Let me describe the features in detail.
- Hold - Allows you to place your call on hold.
- Record - You can use this to record a MP3 of the call.
- AA - You can use this to auto answer any calls
- AC - You can use this to automaticly set up a conference.
- DND - Use if you do not want to be disturbed.
- CONF - Use this to manually set up a conference if you have a second call on hold.
- Flash - Allows you to switch quickly between the two lines.
- Redial - Allows you to redial a number you previously dialed.
Now that you're fimilar with the interface, you can set up the client.
Click on the down arrow and select "SIP Account Settings...":
Once you've clicked that option, you will see a window like this:
This shows the account name, username and the default account set up. You see 4 options: Add, Remove, Properties and Close. Since you have no profiles, click add. It should come up with this window:
- The Display Name is the one that'll be used for the profile.
- The Username is the one that the VOIP provider provided.
- The Password is the one that the VOIP provider provided.
- The Authorization Username may be the same as the username or the one the VOIP prover provided.
- The Domain Proxy, which should probably be set to the domain or to the target domain. This is also usually given to you by your VOIP provider.
Enter all the information that the VOIP provider provided you into the fields but leave the display name blank for now. Go to the Topology tab and enter the STUN server, or leave as the default if your provider haven't given you a STUN server. The STUN server makes it easier for computers to establish direct IP to IP communication, which can lead to better sound quality when connecting to TalkShoe. Click Apply, then click OK, you should see that you are now logged on to your VOIP network and are free to make calls.
Remember to dial the number like so:
sip:123@66.212.134.192
Enjoy dialing into TalkShoe with X-Lite.
